What a week
I’ve had a busy week:
Monday night - Chromeo at the Beck’s Bar (Sydney Festival). Even though I saw them just 2 nights earlier, I was looking forward to seeing/hearing these guys more up close and personal. The crowd was really up for it and knew all the words. I love how everyone went “Chromeo ooh oooh…” at the beginning. See the videos I uploaded on Facebook. I stood at the front left speaker for the first few songs. Unfortunately my musician’s earplugs were conquered by the Beck’s Bar speakers and I had to move away to the back. Chromeo put on a great show and Needy Girl is such a great song. So funky!
Tuesday night - House of the Holy Afro. I saw this in the Sydney Festival guide and thought it looked like fun. I didn’t really have the funds for this as I had already bought tickets to 4 other Festival events. Luckily I scored some freebies from In The Mix (as I’m a dedicated contributor). So Missy Bon Bon came with me to check it out at The Metro. At first the audience was very reserved, but after a few songs everyone was jiving and jiggling to the South African extravaganza. The music was pumping, the singers and dancers were going off with their incredible energy - I had a great time! See photos here
Thursday night - Bar Food Night at Danks St Depot. Delicious food, not cheap though.
Friday Night - Spicks and Speck-tacular. This was a lot of fun. Of course everyone in the Enmore was a fan of the TV show - what a pack of music nerds I was surrounded with. I have new respect for Adam Hills - he handled the live audience really well and was very, very funny. Sometimes on Spicks and Specks his jokes can be a bit lame. They picked 8 people out of the audience to go on stage and compete. I tried! I knew the answer to “Which horror movie star performs on Thriller?” Some of the contestants were nut-cases - and I thought there were too many “old” people chosen. There was a woman behind me, let’s call her “Maria” who had been to the live stage show 23 times…23 TIMES - What the? She obviously has more money than sense! The show went for about an hour and three quarters (even though it said on the Enmore website that it only went for an hour and 10 minutes). So it was pretty good value for about $47. Then we went to Oxford Art Factory (for the first time) for a “Miami (B)ass” night of which I didn’t hear any Miami Bass - more Baltimore/new Electro type stuff. We were only there for an hour - Dave wasn’t feeling well and I was justifiably feeling too old and dorky.
Saturday - resting + some Couch to 5km training.
Sunday - T-visionarium at UNSW - another Sydney Festival thing. Really awesome - really trippy - check it out if you can. They have sessions every half an hour.
